Doris Reynolds Mitchell, 88, of Red House Road, Appomattox, died Friday, June 26, 2015, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Hugh M. "Slick" Mitchell for 61 years.

Born in Appomattox County, Va., on July 1, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Emma Robertson and Homer Dean Reynolds. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she was as a Sunday school teacher, nursery worker, a member of the WMU, and served on various committees. She retired from the area office of the Department of Agriculture (FFA), after many years of dedicated service. Mama had a strong faith in Christ and didn't mind sharing her trust in the Lord. She loved her New Hope Church family and missed being able to attend regularly.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Rita Mitchell of Appomattox and Calvin and Roseanna Mitchell of Spout Spring; five grandchildren, Anna Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell and wife, Kelly, Ashley Mitchell, Christopher Lowery, and Amanda Lowery and her fiancé, Travis; two great grandchildren, Chloe and Brennan Mitchell; a sister, Merle Nash of Appomattox; three brothers and their wives, Alfred and Betsy Reynolds of Forest, Ralph and Ann Reynolds of Appomattox, and Cecil and Margaret Reynolds of Madison Heights; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Reynolds, Ruby Reynolds, and Jean Reynolds; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregivers, Janice, June, Becky, and Melanie.

She was preceded in death by her loving and caring daughter, Donna M. Lowery whom she was blessed to be reunited with on her 55th birthday; three brothers, Harold Reynolds, Shirley Reynolds, and Clyde Reynolds.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Moore with burial following in the church cemetery.
