Doris Tinnell Franklin, 83, of Appomattox, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, in Tyler's Retreat. She was the wife of the late Stratton Howard Franklin.

Born in Campbell County, VA, on February 3, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Rosa Melvin Johnson Tinnell. Doris was a member of Bible Baptist Church and retired from the American Tobacco Company.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary T. Martin and Rebecca T. Bryant and husband, Lloyd both of Appomattox; two brothers, Charles H. Tinnell and wife, Donna and Ryland D. Tinnell and wife, Mary both of Chester; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John Henry Christopher, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Bible Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Lee with burial following in Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
