Obituary

Doris Franklin Dalton, 79, of Salem Rd., Spout Spring, died Monday, January 31, 2011, at her residence. She was the wife of Avery Malcom Dalton.

Born in Appomattox County, on February 21, 1931, she was a daughter of the late D. Julian and Edith Jamerson Franklin. Doris was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as assistant music director and was a former Sunday School Teacher and pianist. She retired from Courtland Manufacturing and was a member of Post #104 American Legion Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Janice Torrence of Spout Spring and Tommy and Melanie Dalton of Lynchburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Kenneth Jones of Spout Spring, Linda and Donnie Almond of Appomattox, and Melinda and Dwayne Shores of Drakes Branch; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Anne Weakley of Appomattox and Mildred Jean and Bobby Dunnam of Spout Spring; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence K. and Helen Franklin of Blue Ridge; a sister-in-law, Gwen P. Franklin of Appomattox; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, George C. (Shine) Franklin.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2011, in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Howard Rosen Jr. and the Rev. George Kreidel. Burial will follow in Spout Spring Baptist Church.

The family will be at the residence. The visitation will be held in her home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
