Obituary
Dixie Stacy Staten, 94, of Falling Creek Road, Appomattox, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge. She was the wife of late Vernal Andrel Staten.
Born Hardy, Kentucky, on August 1, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Exie Keesee and William Bascomb Stacy. She was a longtime member of the Hebron Baptist Church community and for many years she served as president of the Wreck Island Homemaker's Club.
Dixie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lynd D. and Clara Staten; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra S. and Jerry Smiley of Bridgewater; four grandchildren, Jerrica Smiley, Scott V. Smiley both of Bridgewater, Stacy Devlin and husband, Neal of Roanoke, and Christina M. Staten of Helena, Montana; and three great grandchildren, Brett Smiley and Daniel and Lyndsey Devlin.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
A graveside funeral service will be held 12 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2015, in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Tom Walker.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Lynd and Clara Staten, 113 Falling Creek Rd., Appomattox, VA.
