IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delores
Shipplett
June 30, 1933 – March 10, 2021
Delores Jean McNemar Shipplett
Delores Jean McNemar Shipplett, 87, of Appomattox, formerly of Clarksburg, WV and Carrollton, TX, was called home to her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Delores was born on June 30, 1933 in a little log cabin in Arlington Addition, Clarksburg, WV to the late Robert Frank (Buster) McNemar and Emma Francis Clonch McNemar Forsythe Whaley. Her father died when she was six months old, and her mom was the sole provider of the family. In 1951, her mother married the late late Stanley Wilson Forsythe and he was a blessing to the family. She greatly loved and adored him and always thought of him as her father. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John Moses Clonch and Eliza Jane Mash Clonch and paternal grandparents, William Herman McNemar and Clara Virginia McClung McNemar.
Delores was married to the late John McKinley Shipplett, Jr. on July 1, 1950, in Winchester, VA, and he was always the love of her life. She is now reunited with him forever.
She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine Mae McNemar Schefke (Gerald), and all her aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
She is survived by her loving daughter and only child, Marilyn Kaye Shipplett with whom she made her home in Appomattox, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was especially close with her cousins in Appomattox, Ruby (Russ) Caskey, their children Becky Caskey, Sarah (Keith) Hatcher, Rachel (Terrell) Booker, Levi (Haleigh) Caskey, Terence Deone Caskey and Analise Caskey. What she most enjoyed were the 18 young cousins (Ruby's grandchildren) and loved them calling her Aunt, they were a blessing in her life. There was never a dull moment with them around, everyday was special, and she enjoyed the time spent with them.
Always a presence in her life was Phillip O. Petitto, and his wife, Chrysie and daughter, Chrystina (whom she lovingly called her granddaughter) of La Quinta, CA. Friends for years, he was always there for her and her daughter through both good and bad times. They had a friendship that was priceless, and she thought of him as her son.
Delores and her daughter Marilyn moved from Clarksburg, WV, to Carrollton, TX in January of 2003 and finally found their forever home in Appomattox, in September 2020. She was thankful that she was able to live out her life in a beautiful home and neighborhood surrounded by her wonderful, caring family and friends.
Delores was a graduate of Victory High School in Clarksburg, WV, class of 1951.
She loved her newly adopted kittens, Mischa, Dove and Anastasia and enjoyed watching them play and wrestle with each other. They were constantly looking out the windows in her room or by her bedside with Mischa usually laying on the bed at her feet.
Before her health failed, she was constantly cooking, baking, tending her flower gardens, and out talking with her neighbors in the yard.
While living in Clarksburg, WV, she was a member of the Evangelical Congregational Church and attended faithfully. It was during a service by her late pastor Rev. O.D. Harman in the 1972 that she found the Lord and was then baptized along with her loving daughter in the 200-year-old Center Branch baptismal area.
She will be buried beside her loving husband at Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery, Clarksburg, WV. A memorial service for family and friends will be observed in her honor at a later date in Appomattox, and also in Clarksburg, WV.
Her daughter would like to thank Centra Health Hospice for making her final journey one without pain and suffering. Martha, David, Sherri and Sherry were so kind and thoughtful for the very short time she was in their care.
