Obituary

David E. Moore, 71, of Charlotte Court House, woke in the arms of Jesus on April 23, 2023. His body is now healed of the dementia he suffered with for many years. He was the husband of Dianna "Linda" Lee Moore for 47 years.

Born January 30, 1952, in Lynchburg, VA, he was the son of Sarah Ann Hancock Moore and the late Jerry Moore. David was a tobacco farmer in his early years and the owner of Red Mule Hardware, in Phenix, in his later years. He was also a member of the Sons of the Confederacy. His interests included all things Civil War and raising mules.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Jonathan D. Moore of Concord, and Dana M. Clark and husband, Jason, of Phenix; his sister, Mary Ann High, and husband Derreke, of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Tyler L. Moore and wife Kendree, Brianna L. Moore, Mikayla D. Clark, and Zachary W. Clark; and two nephews, the late Jeremiah F. Hamlett and Joshua L. Hamlett.

David was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) while attending Randolph-Henry High School, where he gained his knowledge and love for farming. While farming, he also worked in Drakes Branch at Hall's Farm Supply for many years. In 2004, he opened the hardware and farming store in Phenix, Red Mule Hardware. He could help any member of the surrounding communities with small engine repair, feed, fertilizer, and gardening supplies. He and Linda had a greenhouse and grew the vegetable and flowering plants that were sold at the store. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and Honor Guard. He enjoyed being a part of the reenactment events to keep our country's history alive. After his diagnosis of dementia and the progression of the disease, he retired from the hardware store and was no longer able to participate in the events but would still attend when he could. David was a member of Phenix Methodist Church, Phenix, VA.
