Obituary

David Baxter Foster, 88, of Gouyer Drive, Madison Heights, died March 22, 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born February 4, 1919 in Concord, he was a son of the late Douglas Baxter and Nannie Franklin Foster.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, 29th Infantry Division, 110th Field Artillery Battalion, participating in the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach. As an active member of Early's Chapel United Methodist Church, he had served as past Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, Lay Leader, Finance Chairman and Treasurer. He was also a past member of the Madison Heights Ruritan Club, and retired from Winebarger Church Furniture Corp. as sales coordinator.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Cardwell Foster; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles D. and Linda A. Foster of Madison Heights; three grandchildren, Laurie, John and Katelyn Foster; a brother-in-law, Joe Coates; and nieces and nephews, Kim Gaskins, Bill Gaskins, Randy Foster, Jo Ellen Capps, Audrey Cardwell, T. J. Cardwell, David Cardwell, John Cardwell, and Anne Scott Cardwell.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret F. Gaskins, a brother, Franklin R. Foster, and a nephew, Rector Foster.
A memorial service will be held at Early's Chapel Church on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 2:00 pm, by the Rev. Ron Litten. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 104 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
