Obituary

David Randolph "Skipper" Caldwell, Sr., of Appomattox, died Friday, May 21, 2010 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. For 60 years, he was the loving husband of Virginia "Jenny" Torrence Caldwell.

Born in Richmond, on September 16, 1930, he was a son of the late David Edwin Caldwell, Jr. and Kathleen Whittington Caldwell. He was a member and former Deacon of Appomattox Courthouse Presbyterian Church. He retired after 32 years of service as the General Manager for Courtland Manufacturing Company. David was a member of Appomattox Lions Club, past board member of Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed many meals and hours of fellowship at May's Chitlin Club.


In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, David R. Caldwell, Jr. and George Dawkins of Manila, Philippines; two daughters, Sandra and Bill Thorne of Burke and Debbie and Kipp Burch of Brookneal; a sister, Virginia and Joel Carnefix of Appomattox; six grandchildren, John Williams of Atlanta, GA, Michael and Jess Thorne of Centreville, Matthew Thorne and fiancée Karen Bebbino of Bristow, Heather Williams of Ruther Glen, Autumn Burch and Tucker Burch of Brookneal; cousin, Walter and Betty Hancock of Appomattox; numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Monday, May 24, 2010 in Appomattox Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Frank Avery with burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery.


The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00pm, Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
