David Omar Austin, 79, of Hollywood Road, Appomattox, died Monday, January 31, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Roberta Franklin Austin for 57 ½ years.

Born in Buckingham County, Va., on May 29, 1937, he was a son of the late Mattie Woodson and Robert Gallian Austin. He was a member, deacon, and trustee of Hollywood Baptist Church where he also served on various church committees. David started his career at the Appomattox Telephone Company and retired from Verizon.

In addition to his wife, Roberta he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet A. and David Hix; and three grandchildren, Clinton L. Robertson, Karie G. Robertson, and Austin M. Robertson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas A. "Tommy" Austin.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017, at Hollywood Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Phillips. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
