Daniel Lee Tolbert, 84, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
Born in Appomattox County, VA on December 30, 1929, he was the oldest of 16 children born to Mazie Goin and Emmitt Edward Tolbert, Sr. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army who served his country in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. He was awarded multiple citations including a Bronze Star for Merit.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Eva Baldwin Tolbert, three sons, Ronald Lee Tolbert, Gary Dean Tolbert and wife, Laura, and Barry Gene Tolbert and wife, Margaret; his grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Alexander, Daniel, Andrew, Sean, Jordan, Audrey, Kyle and Saoirse; three brothers, James C. Tolbert of Victor, NY, H. Ray Tolbert of Arrington, and Emmitt E. Tolbert, Jr. of Madison Heights; and six sisters, Alice Baldwin and Anna Belle Weaver of Pamplin, Ruth Woods of Florida, Loretta Robertson of Phenix, Barbara Ann Tolbert and Georgia Stern of Lynchburg.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby Lukin Tolbert, Thomas W. Tolbert, Bill A. Tolbert, and Jack D. Tolbert and two sisters, Gracie T. Barksdale and Betty Smith.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. David Sexton. Burial will follow in Pamplin Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V. F. W. #9855 combined honor guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until time of service.
