Daniel Perry Harvey, 76, of Evergreen, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Cecil Hillsman Harvey for 53 years.
Born in Evergreen, July 30, 1932, he was a son of the late Royal Penick Harvey and Eleanor Ferguson Harvey. He graduated from Appomattox High School, served in the U.S. Navy, retired from General Electric in Lynchburg, and was a lifelong member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Beverly Harvey Cyrus and her husband, Ronnie of Evergreen; a son, Daniel Perry Harvey II and his wife, Anupama Sharma Harvey of Charleston, Ill., three grandchildren, Courtney Lynn Cyrus and her fiancé, Brian Gunn, Mira Sharma Harvey, and Nikhil Preston Harvey; a brother, Thomas E. Harvey and his wife, Phyllis; and a sister, Irma Harvey Jenkins and her husband, Latane. He was also blessed to be part of a loving extended family and the Evergreen United Methodist Church family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Harvey Martin.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held 4:00 pm, Friday, Nov. 21, in Evergreen United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Green and the Rev. Pat Neilsen. The service will be followed by a meal and visitation in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends at other times at the residence, White Pine Drive, Evergreen.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
