Courtney Thomas King Sr., 84, of Stratford Rd., Concord, died Sunday Night, January 23, 2011 at Avante. He was the loving husband of Joyce Tolley King for 54 years.

Born in Dinwiddie Co., on January 11, 1927, he was a son of the late Mabel Thomas and Robert Allen King, Sr. Courtney was retired from Lynchburg Jobbing House, was a member at Bethlehem United Methodist in Concord, and the Elks Club.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Courtney T. King, Jr. and his wife Stephanie, and their children and grandchildren children ,Brittany Pangers and Alex King, and Hollis and Grace of Lynchburg; Leslie King Rock and her husband Daniel, and Daniel's children, Daniel, Claire and Catherine, of Macon, GA; F. Scott King and his wife Virginia, and Virginia's two son Kenny and Chris of Spout Spring; a brother Robert A. King, Jr. and his wife Carol of Norfolk and a sister-in-law, Jean Patterson of Bedford.

A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, January 27, 2011 in Concord Cemetery, by the Rev. Dan Dibble. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guard.

Family will receive friends at the residence at all times.
