Clifford Eugene Harvey, 88, of First Street, Appomattox, died Monday morning December 31, 2012 at The Woodland in Farmville. He was the husband of the late Patsy Penn Scott Harvey.
Born in Phenix, VA on April 29, 1924, he was a son of the late Lillian Brightwell and Rawley Cleveland Harvey. Cliff was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, member of the choir and Brunswick Stew Master. He was a member of the Appomattox Lion's Club, a charter member of the Appomattox County Rescue Squad; a member, Past Commander and Past Adjutant of American Legion Post #104 and a Master Gardener.
Cliff was part owner and Secretary-Treasurer of Robinson Funeral Home, Inc., from which he retired after 39 years of service. He received a Golden Funeral Service license from the Virginia Funeral Directors Association for his having held a Virginia Funeral Directors License for over 50 years.
Prior to coming to Robinson Funeral Home, Cliff served his apprenticeship at Geest Funeral Home in Culpeper and later worked for Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
He is survived by his four children, Dr. Paul Douglas Harvey and wife Greer of Appomattox, Rebecca Harvey Throckmorton and husband Denny of Staunton, Sally Ann Harvey of Falls Church, and David Allen Harvey of Richmond; four grandchildren, Joseph Aaron Throckmorton and wife Crystal, Kelly Lauren Harvey and fiancé Matt Boyd, Dustin Andrew Throckmorton and wife Elizabeth, and Katherine Anne Harvey; one great grandson, Jackson Lewis Throckmorton; a sister, Bertie H. Pollard of Keysville; a sister-in-law, Lucy P. Harvey of Appomattox and special friends, Leslie Ann Spalding, Stella Osborne and Milton T. Bruce and wife, Tina.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar J., Bernard L., and Benjamin R. Harvey and two sisters, Evelyn Locke and Josephine Harvey.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday January 2, 2013 at Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Loren Tate Mitchell. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today (Tuesday) from 4-6:00 P.M. and other times at the residence.
