Clarence Handy Franklin, 88, of Appomattox, died Monday, December 24, 2018, at Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Ruth Noami Maxey Franklin.

Born in Appomattox County, Va., on August 15, 1930, he was a son of the late Ella Gobble and Abdullah Franklin. He was an US Air Force Veteran serving in Korea, a member of Bible Baptist Church, and retired from Armstrong Furniture.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Wayne Franklin and Debbie of Amherst, Dennis Franklin of Appomattox, and Mark Owen Franklin and Janet of Spout Spring; grandchildren, Justin and wife, Kelsey, Johnathon, Matt, Hollie, Leslie, and Sara; great-grandchildren, Rebel and Wilder; step-children, Lawrence Lee Hall, Jr. and Diane Lemon and Wally; step-grandchildren, Caroline and Emma; a special friend, James Taylor; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edward C. Franklin; six brothers, A. B. Jr., Benjamin, Thomas, Louis, Alex Franklin and Judson "Jack" Franklin; and the mother of his sons, Betty Jennings Shupe.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home by Pastor Paul Kvasnicka. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of his son, Mark, 904 Tanglewood Road, Spout Spring.
