Charles Alexander Smith, 79, of Wildway Road, Appomattox, died, Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of Ellen Almond Smith.

Born in Charlotte Court House, November 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Evie Lee and Alex Smith. Charles was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from English Construction.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Mike Smith and wife, Marsha of Appomattox; two daughters, Brenda Hawkins of Appomattox and Delores Smith of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Jason Smith, Kevin Hawkins, Christian Foster, Joshua Smith and Savanah Keesee; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Smith; one grandson, Ryan Smith; and one great-grandson, Grayson Smith.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Moore.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2017 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
