Charles Ronald "C.R." Thompson, 77, of Rustburg, died Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Born in Lynchburg, December 3, 1946, he was a son of the late Florence Oneeda Carson and Charlie Russell "Shorty" Thompson.  CR was a member of Rustburg United Methodist Church.  He received a Master of Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and received a Civil Engineering degree from Virginia Tech. CR taught Junior High School for 36 years.  CR officiated baseball, football, volleyball, and basketball for 49 years and was a distinguished umpire for Valley League Service for 40 years.  CR was the secretary for Chestnut Mountain Hunt Club and was the "Grass Cutter" for Rustburg United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his three children, Charles Russell Thompson (Deanna) of Lynchburg, Savannah Thompson Evans (Josiah) and Chandler Langhorne Lawhorn (Cody) both of Rustburg; one brother, Rick Thompson (Nancy) of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shelby Harper.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Rustburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Laskey and Pastor Sung Woon Yoo officiating.

The family will have a visitation one hour before the service and continuing after the service at the church.
