Charles "Charlie" Braxton Mitchell, 80, of Cawthorne St. Appomattox, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Rosalia Wright Mitchell.
Born in Appomattox County on March 15, 1932, he was a son of the late Curtis L. and Willie Jones Mitchell. Charlie was a retired truck driver for Appomattox Hardware, an avid Red Sox fan, quail and turkey hunter as well as fisherman. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, V.F.W., and served his country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steve Braxton Mitchell and Jerry Monroe Mitchell, both of Appomattox; a daughter, Kristie M. Cocks and husband Jeff, of Brookneal; two brothers, Mike Mitchell and his wife Suzanne of Appomattox, and Doug Mitchell and his wife Joette, of Forest; one sister, Shirley C. Tomlin and her husband Gene of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Summer Rae Mitchell, Phillip Braxton Cocks and Matthew Drake Cocks; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Mitchell of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Maymond L. Mitchell, one sister, Mary Kat Whitehead, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Doss Mitchell.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 am, at Liberty Cemetery, by the Rev. Dr. Rusty Small. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #104 and Veterans of Foreign Wars #9855 combined honor guards.
