Obituary

Charlene Martin Moore died peacefully at home on November 14, 2018. Born on November 5, 1922 in Appomattox County, Charlene was the tenth child (of an eventual twelve) of Lillian Pearl Grow and Thomas Moore Martin. She left home in 1941 to work for C&P Telephone Company in Lynchburg and married Herman Robert Moore, Jr. in 1945, after which they moved to Richmond.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and ten siblings (Dorothy M. Martin, Eunice M. Martin, Allen Martin, and Virginia Drinkard all of Concord; Robert B. Martin, Lorene Morris, Thomas T. Martin, and Abner Martin all of Appomattox; Jean M. Tyree of Waynesboro, and Charles (Jack) Martin of Lynchburg. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Jayne (Moore) Woodford and Dianne P. Moore of Henrico, her sister Lillian M. Martin of Concord, her sister-in-law Evalena M. Martin of Glen Allen, fifteen nieces and nephews, and a plethora of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Charlene retired from the telephone company (by then Verizon) in 1986 after over 25 years of service and cherished her friendships there and through Beta Sigma Phi. She always enjoyed sports and became an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Charlene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Henrico County since 1964, where she participated in many enriching Bible studies.

A funeral service will be held 1p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Appomattox, 1975 Trinity Road, Concord, with interment in Rebecca Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the burial.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on 703 Forest Avenue, Henrico, on Monday, November 19 at 2pm, with a reception following.

The family thanks Senior Insights and its caregivers (Yolanda Simms, Katherine Babineaux, Shawnette Walker, Cathreen Waiyaki, and Tempest Lofton) for their guidance and gentle service during the last weeks.
