Obituary

First Sargent Retired Cecil Anderson Roach, 76, of Thomas Jefferson Hwy., Pamplin died Wednesday, January 4, 2011 in Southside Community Hospital. He was the husband of Joan Gay Roach.

Born in Charlotte County, VA, on May 8, 1935, he was a son of the late Ida Nash and Leslie Thomas Roach Sr. He received his associate's degree from Southside Community College and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Cecil was a retired 1st Sargent in the US Marine Corps serving two tours in Vietnam and one in Israel and in Okinawa. After retiring from the Marines in 1975, he worked for Old Dominion Job Corps and the Charlotte County School Board as Transportation Director.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Jeffrey J. Roach of Shreveport, Louisiana and Gloria R. Totty of Rustburg; four step-children, Donna J. Reid, Anna L. Kirchner, Joellen J. O'Neil, and D. Rodney Jones; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Roach. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Thomas Roach, Jr.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2011, in Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guards.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today, Friday, Jan. 6, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
