Obituary

Cecil Barner Jones, 92, of Village Highway, Concord, died Sunday morning, Feb. 15, 2015 at his residence. He and his wife, Margaret Steele Jones shared their lives together for over 62 years.

Born on May 21, 1922 in Brunswick Co., he was a son of the late Fredrick Green and Octavia Baird Jones. Cecil was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he served as secretary for several years.

Cecil lived his life in service to others. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of the Reedy Spring Masonic Lodge #203 A.F. & A.M. and charter member and past President of Concord Ruritan Club with perfect attendance for 50 years.

He was a charter and life member and a past Chief of the Concord Volunteer Fire Department. He had 54 years of service and had received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

He also was a charter and life member of the Concord Volunteer Rescue Squad with over 43 years of service. In 2009, he received the Jason Saunders Lifetime Achievement Award. On January 29, 1998, the General Assembly issued a House Joint Resolution no. 54 in admiration and gratitude for Cecil's numerous contributions to the Concord community.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one sister-in-law, Shirley K. Jones of Gasburg; two nephews and their families; ten nieces and their families; four great-nieces and their families; three great-nephews and their families; and three great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters, and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Dibble and the Rev. Frank Casper. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
