Spout Spring – Calvin Channey Woods, Jr., 77, of Route #1, died Friday January 27, 2006. He was the husband of Ruth Tolbert Woods.
He was born in Campbell County May 24, 1928 a son of the late Calvin Channey Woods, Sr. and Bertha Irene Lee Woods. Jr. was a member of American Legion Post #104 and Woodmen of the World and served with honor in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was employed by Moses Motor Company and in the late seventies opened Woods Garage with two loyal and devoted employees, Jimmy Goin and Peter Floyd.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two grandchildren whom he and Ruth reared, Calvin and Brook Nicole Goin; Sissy Page who was like a daughter; two sisters, Mary W. Skaggs and her husband, Harry of Texas; Lois W. Kidd and her husband, James of Lynchburg; 5 brothers, Emory M. Woods and his wife Shirley; Jack T. Woods and his wife Nancy; Dewey A. Woods and his wife Ann; Gary Woods and his wife Donna; and John B. Woods and his wife Carolyn all of Appomattox. He was preceded in death by his step-son, James Allen (Jimmy) Goin.
A Graveside Funeral service with Military Honors accorded by American Legion Post #104 will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday February 1, 2006 in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Carlton Duck.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
