Retired Major C. Kendall Hunter, Jr., U.S.A.F., died Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born in High Point, NC on April 18, 1934, Kendall was the only child of Emma Young and C.K. "Red" Hunter, Sr. He was a member of Appomattox Courthouse Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post #104. During both the Korean War and Vietnam, Kendall served his country as a member of the United State Marine Corp as well as the United States Air Force. For his service he received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars for Valor and four Air Force Commendation Medals. He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and retired as an engineer with Westinghouse Corporation. An excellent husband, loving father and grandfather, he was a man of many talents, a licensed pilot, crop duster, and published author, "Legal Insurrection".
Kendall is survived by his wife, Wibbie Brown Hunter; four children, Brett Hunter and wife Tammy, and Kelley Hunter all of Appomattox, Mark Hunter and wife Judy, and Karen H. Maxey and husband Keith, all of Rustburg; six grandchildren, Edwin (Pee Wee) Litchford, Heather Maxey, Megghan Parker, Kyle Maxey, Jaymie Mitchell and Samantha Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Kierstin Parker and Kylee Parker. He also leaves to cherish his three dogs, Otto, Gretchen and Deacon "Big D".
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Bannon "Betty" Hunter.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Loren Tate Mitchell. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the home of Brett & Tammy Hunter.
