Following a brief battle with esophageal cancer, Bruce Mauzy Eye, 85, of Appomattox, died peacefully in his home on November 21, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. Born May 15, 1933, in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Henry Berlin Eye and Bessie Mauzy Eye.
Bruce attended Lane High School and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and earned an Associate Degree in Police Science from the Central Virginia Community College. He was stationed in France during the Korean War and earned the rank of Corporal prior to an honorable discharge. He continued to enjoy speaking French and was also known to recite Shakespeare. While attending the University in Charlottesville, Bruce drove for Pace's Taxi and later worked for the United States Post Office. In May of 1959, he graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy as a trooper and was stationed in Northern Virginia.
In April of 1965, Bruce was promoted to Special Agent and moved to Division III. While working in Appomattox, he used his veteran's benefits to become a pilot and flew professionally for the Virginia State Police. Bruce retired in 1991 after 33 years of police service, a career he relished as challenging and rewarding. In retirement, he continued to do investigative work for the Central Virginia Training Center in Lynchburg, Va. He was a member of the Virginia State Police Association, Virginia State Police Alumni Association, Shenandoah Knife Collectors Association, and a charter member of the Old Dominion Knife Collectors Association, which was founded in Lynchburg, Va.
Bruce is survived by Shirley Cunningham Eye of Fredericksburg; his son, David Berlin Eye of New York; his daughter, Suzan Eye Mann and her husband, Gerald Mann of Pa.; and two grandchildren, Mary Kathleen Mann, a graduate student at The College of William and Mary and Daniel Forrest Mann, a senior at Christopher Newport University. Also surviving Bruce are two sisters-in-law, Doris Anne McKamey of Earlysville, Va. and Fay Ellen Cunningham and her husband, Greg Jones of Troy, Va.; one nephew, Tom Emery of Pa.; and six nieces, Linden Emery of Calif., Lisa Emery of N.Y., Courtney Emery of Pa., April Greenwood of Richmond, Va., and Cindy Layne and Mary Leigh Layne of Charlottesville. Bruce was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Trew of Earlysville, Va. and Lucille Emery of Ariz.

Family visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2018, from 11 a.m. until noon, followed by a service at Robinson Funeral Home, 667 Court Street, in Appomattox, Va. Interment will be at the Old Herman Cemetery adjacent to the National Historical Park grounds on Route 24.
