In memory of Bobby Mitchell Reaves, 65, of Buckingham, who passed away December 19, 2007. Bobby a.k.a. "High Pockets" was born on March 18, 1942, in Gadsden, Alabama, the son of the late Ceasar and Nellie Ruth Amberson Reaves. He met Carolyn Hackett, his wife of 39 years, at Phillips Business College where they were both students. He made such an impression when he introduced himself that she forgot his name immediately. One of Carolyn's cherished memories is of receiving a kiss and a "thank you" from Bobby after every meal.
Bobby also leaves behind three children, Kimberly Miracle and husband, Marty of Cleveland, OH; Bobby Mitchell Reaves, Jr. "Mickey" and wife, Kristie of Concord; and Christopher Scott Reaves and wife, Kathy of Evington; two sisters, Gail Wright of Lynchburg and Betty Esterline of Richmond and six grandchildren, Avery, Mack, Hunter, Cam, Christopher and Holli.
Bobby was educated at Central Virginia Community College and Liberty University as a Radiologic Technologist. He served three years in the U. S. Army where he held the rank of Sergeant before his discharge. He was athletic and excelled in several sports. He was known locally as an avid and talented golfer. His collection of trophies and trinkets remind us of his passion for the game. Bobby was an ardent, life-long Crimson Tide fan. He never missed the Alabama vs. Auburn game. GO BAMA…ROLL TIDE. Bobby retired from Centra Health after 30 years of service at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Additionally, he was an instructor in the radiology program at CVCC and was active in the Central Virginia District Society of Radiologic Technologists, serving as President in 2000. Bobby was a member of the Vera Worship Center.
Bobby never met a stranger. He loved to talk. He loved life. Even though he is gone, he still can bring a smile or laugh to our faces. When we hear a blond joke or watch a magician pull a quarter from a child's ear, we will think of him. Likewise, when we hear Stroll All Over Heaven, You are my Sunshine, and Danny Boy, the echoes of his lovely singing voice will still be heard in our minds. Bobby is now with his mother, father, and younger brother, Jimmy and will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends.
The family will receive visitors from 7-8:30 pm, Friday, December 21, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox and other times at the residence.
The celebration of life service for Bobby will take place at the Vera Worship Center, 11:00 am, Saturday, December 22, 2007 with the Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Interment will be in the family cemetery in Buckingham.
