Raymond W. "Bobby" Mitchell was born on July 31, 1928 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine R. Mitchell of Appomattox; daughters, Lisa C. Godfrey & husband Allen of Chesterfield and Lori A. Mitchell of Pamplin; granddaughter, Amber N. Godfrey, New York, N.Y.; and a sister, Sarah M. Burke of Appomattox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Euen Talmadge and Emily Frances Gunter Mitchell.

Among his many accomplishments, he was a Charter Member of the Appomattox Jaycee's, President of the Appomattox Lions Club, served on the Appomattox Town Council from 1992 thru 1996, and the Appomattox School Board from 1997 until present. Appointed by Gov. Mark Warner in August 2002 to the State Board of Corrections and reappointed until present. He retired from the State Department of Taxation on August 1, 1990.

During his retirement years, he loved to work in his garden, share his home grown vegetables, and ride his tractors. He was a member of Grace Hills Baptist Church, Appomattox, VA.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2011, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Wesley Williams. The family will be receiving friends at the Oakleigh Avenue home.
