With heavy hearts and profound gratitude, we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Betty Ann Moore Slough, who peacefully departed this world on December 8, 2025, surrounded by her cherished daughter, Rhonda Doss. Betty’s journey was a testament to her resilience as she faced a long and challenging illness, and now she rests in the embrace of heaven.
Born on June 20, 1936, in the beautiful town of Sevierville, Tennessee, Betty was a beloved daughter of Margaret R. and John A. Moore. She spent 55 wonderful years married to her soulmate, Daniel J. Slough, until his passing in 2012. Together, they forged a legacy of love, family, and unwavering support that continues to inspire us all.
Betty is preceded in death by her loving parents and her devoted husband, as well as her siblings: Kate Williams, Josephine Reid, Willie Zuppello, Mary Moore, Myrtle Thomas, Rose Blazer, Johnny Moore, Ted Moore, Frank Moore, James Moore, and Alfred (Sharp) Moore. While they are missed dearly, their memories live on in the hearts of those who remain.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Vanessa M. Conyers and her husband, Danny R. Conyers of Richmond, VA; Rhonda Doss and her husband, Steve Doss of Appomattox, VA; Roxanne Benedikter and her husband, Butch Benedikter of Lynchburg, VA; Christina Burton and her partner, Barrett White of Lynchburg, VA; and her son, Danny J. Slough of Appomattox, VA. Betty’s legacy extends further through her adored grandchildren: Jazelle McCormick, Joshua McCormick, Aimee Martin, Steven Doss, Jacob Farrar, Bryce Burton, Dylan Burton, and Jessica Chapman. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Dakota Page, Lakelyn Conyers, Dustin McCormick, Victoria Martin, Alexander Martin, Caden Doss, Peyton Burton, Zylen Burton, Layne Burton, Emma Chapman, Corey Chapman, Caleb Deagle, and her great-great-granddaughter, Emma Ann Page, who carries her name as a beautiful tribute.
Betty was a beacon of humor and warmth, often using her signature phrase, “Well, it’s the truth, isn’t it?” She was known for her honesty and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her home was a sanctuary for family and friends, a place where laughter echoed, and bonds were strengthened over shared meals and heartfelt conversations. Even in her final days, her caring spirit shone brightly as she expressed concern for others, ensuring “her girls” had Christmas gifts from her.
A passionate baseball enthusiast, Betty’s heart belonged to the Washington Nationals, and she found joy in spirited discussions about the team with her daughter, Christina. Her love for Elvis Presley and her enthusiasm for dancing brought her countless moments of joy, filling her life with rhythm and happiness. Betty was a devoted member of Appomattox Pentecostal Church and a supporter of Journey Ministries Church, where she found strength and solace in her faith.
In a selfless act of compassion, Betty chose to donate her body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program, hoping that her contribution might aid in finding causes and cures for her illnesses, ultimately helping others in their battles.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Betty’s caregivers and hospice nurses: Marlene (Buckwheat) Mayberry, Barbara Goin, Teah Banks, Clara Elder, and Bianca Gilliam. Special thanks to her hospice nurse, Diann Pickett, and her social worker, Sherry Adams. Your dedication and love provided comfort and care during a difficult time, and for that, we will be eternally grateful.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Friday, December 12th, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Journey Ministries, with Pastor SL Ferguson delivering the eulogy. We warmly invite all family and friends to join us in honoring the extraordinary life of Betty Ann Moore Slough, a woman whose love and spirit will forever resonate within us.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a diabetes or cancer foundation, honoring Betty’s journey and supporting the fight against these illnesses.
As we gather to remember Betty, let us rejoice in her life, cherish the memories she created, and carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. She may have left this world, but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
