Betty Moore Ramsey, 89, of Pamplin, VA, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Norman Leslie Ramsey, Jr.
Born in Charlotte Court House, VA, on January 14, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Carrie Johnson and Robert “Buck” Moore. Betty was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and served with the UMW. She was a long-time employee at Amelia Dress Company and worked on her family’s farm. Betty’s life was centered around church, family, and community. She loved to be outside and cooking for everybody.
She is survived by four children, Janet R. Bailey and husband, J.B., Norman L. Rasmey III and wife, Karen, Dennis Ramsey and wife, Lisa, and Teresa L. Ramsey; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, R.D. “Bob” Moore; one sister, Fay M. Bartley; one brother-in-law, Jack V. Ramsey; one sister-in-law, Izetta Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Moore, James Moore, and Fred Moore.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday August 23, 2026, at Memorial Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Michael Day and Reverend Herndon Jeffreys. Burial will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Legacy Hall.
