Bettie Layne Gaines, 76, of Depot Lane, Spout Spring, died Friday morning February 18, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Archie Garland Gaines.
Bettie was born on January 5, 1935, in Spout Spring, a daughter of the late Leavie Estelle Roberts and William Earnest Layne, Sr. She was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities including Chairman of the Finance Committee and Pastor Parish Relations Committee. Bettie was a member of the American Legion Unit #104 Ladies Auxiliary and was retired from Appomattox Radio, T V and Appliance.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a daughter, Vickie R. Thomas , of Spout Spring; two grandsons, Zachary Gunter and Jane of Evington; Jeremy Gunter and Christy of Spout Spring; a brother, William E. Layne, Jr. and wife Alice; a sister and her daughter, Pauline and Patsy McFadden all of Spout Spring,; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved puppy, "Precious".
Bettie was preceded in death by a brother, Jack D. Layne and two sisters, Estelle McFadden, Florence Johnson and Vickie's father, Robert C. Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in Salem United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. James Martin. Burial will follow in the Layne Family Plot in Concord Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 7-8:30 P.M. and other times at the residence.
