Bessie Carter Smith, 80, of Horseshoe Rd., Appomattox, died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was the wife of the late David M. Smith.
Born in Appomattox County, Va., on March 31, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Mary Judith Ferguson and Charles Allen Carter. Bessie retired from Thomasville Furniture Company and was an active member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Diane S. and Joseph W. Kesterson of Virginia Beach; a granddaughter, Lisa M. Kohler and husband, Daniel; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Benjamin and Nathan all of Virginia Beach; a brother, Charles J. Carter, Sr. and wife, Opal of Buckingham; and many other beloved relatives, dear friends and neighbors.
Bessie was a blessing to all who knew her...a kind, caring soul who loved the Lord God with all her heart. She was an avid gardener and took immense pleasure in the great outdoors. Bessie enjoyed crocheting, crafts, cooking, and teaching Sunday School.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Hollywood Baptist Church which will be officiated by the Rev. Robert Phillips. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Robinson Funeral Home.
