Appomattox: Bessie Dowdy Pulliam, 98, of Farmville and formerly of Appomattox died Sunday night December 24, 2006. She was the widow of Herbert Carrington Pulliam, Sr.
Bess was born in Farmville on February 9, 1908 a daughter of the late Charles Hamilton and Annie Singleton Dowdy. She was a graduate of the Farmville Public Schools and attended Roanoke Business College. Bess was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, the Appomattox Woman's Club and the Appomattox Garden Club.
She is survived by her son, Herbert C. Pulliam, Jr. of Wilton Manors, FL: three grandchildren, Elizabeth P. Sandler, Samuel Carrington Pulliam, and Joanna P. Read; four great-grandchildren, Collin, Jack and Katherine Sandler and Maxwell Read; two sisters, Inez D. Simpson and Elsie D. Fulcher both of Farmville.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday December 27 in Liberty Cemetery.
