Obituary

Bessie Wheeler Maddox, 94, went to be with her Lord, Saturday afternoon August, 15, 2009 at the Oaks of Lynchburg surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Josh Edward "Ed" Maddox.
Born in Amherst County, March 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Volley Land Wheeler and Rosa Coffey Wheeler. Bessie was a member of Spout Spring Baptist Church, a retired employee of Amelia Dress and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She is survived by two sons; Dewey Maddox and wife, Jean of Appomattox, Wendell Maddox and wife, Sylvia of Forest; two daughters, Juanita Cheatham and husband, James, Betty Martin and husband, Paul all of Spout Spring; one sister, Ira Mays of Madison Heights; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Essie Wheeler; sister, Lottie Hilton; two brothers, Otis Wheeler and Otha Wheeler; a son James Maddox, and daughter, Altha Maddox.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Spout Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. George Kreidel and the Rev. Paul D. Kvasnicka. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
