Berkley Davis Garrett, Sr.
Berkley Davis Garrett, Sr., 89, of Appomattox, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Lois Belle Krantz Garrett for 61 years.
Born in Appomattox, June 15, 1918, he was the son of the late William Fletcher Garrett and Queen Victoria Harris Garrett. Berkley was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons, Building and Grounds Committee, Cemetery Committee and was a Trustee. He was a WWII Veteran having served in the Air Force. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox and was a farmer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; Berkley D. Garrett, Jr. and wife, Barbara, and Devonne (Bonnie) Godsey and husband, Steve; two brothers, Leonard Garrett and Nathan Garrett all of Appomattox; one sister, Emma G. Norcross of Altavista; four grandchildren, Stephen G. Godsey, Jr., Aaron Ray Godsey and wife, April, Stephanie Nicole O'Conner, and Erica Dawn Garrett; four great-grandchildren, Beth Godsey, Katie Godsey, Conner Niel Patterson, and Michael Ryan Funk and numerous nieces and nehews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at Red Oak Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Barker and Rev. Jeff Worley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 104 and V.F.W. 8955 combined Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 4:30-6:00 p.m. today, May 11, 2008 and other times at the Residence.
