Benjamin Robert Harvey, Sr., 84, of Morton Lane, Appomattox, died Wednesday morning November 21, 2012 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Lucy Perdue Harvey for fifty-three years.
Ben was born in Phenix, Charlotte Co., VA on December 10, 1927 a son of the late Lillian Brightwell and Rawley Cleveland Harvey. He was a retired Navy veteran having served for twenty years and was an employee of Craddock-Terry Shoe Company with 20 years' service. He was a graduate of Randolph Henry High School.
Ben was a very active member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he was involved in many offices, committees and his behind the scene service was always appreciated He loved music, played the saxophone in the school band and even learned to play the violin at age 65. He was an active member of the Sanctuary and Handbell Choirs.
In addition to his wife Lucy, he is survived by his son, Benjamin Robert (Benny) Harvey, Jr., of Appomattox; sister, Bertie H. Pollard of Keysville; a brother, Clifford E. Harvey of Appomattox and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Russell Cheatham and the Rev. Bruce Johnson. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday night from 7-8:30 PM and other times at the residence.
