Obituary

Ben D. Wheeler, 91, of Oakleigh Avenue, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Sentara Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Helen Smith Wheeler.

Born in Appomattox County, January 5, 1925 he was a son of the late Eloise Alvis and Irby Banks Wheeler. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Barker-Jennings Incorporated with over 30 years of service. He was the president of his 1942 graduating class at Appomattox High School and president of the FFA.

He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law's David and Rebecca Wheeler of Virginia Beach, and Thomas and Gail Wheeler of Richmond; a daughter and son-in-law, Louise W. and Herbert Gordon of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, John Gordon and wife, Jennifer and Lauren Wheeler all of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lydia; two sisters, Bertha Jones of Spout Spring, and Betsy Kaeding of Thawville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Wheeler and Bob Wheeler.

A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Russell Cheatham. A private family burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
