Appomattox: Basil James "Buster" Lucado, 93, of Vermillion Road, died, Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in the comfort of his home on Bald Mountain Farm where he lived since 1918. He is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Lorene Bass Lucado.
Born in Appomattox County, August 29, 1913, Buster was the son of the late Littleton and Ethel Childers Lucado. He retired from farming and the U.S. Government Soil Conservation Service. Buster was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 104, Farm Bureau, and a founding member of the Oakville Ruritan Club. A veteran of World War II (Army), Buster served in the 1271st Combat Engineer Division in the European Theater.
In addition to his wife, Buster is survived by three children, Thomas J. Lucado and his wife, Gale, Joan L. Holt and her husband, Bob, and Phillip Lucado and his fiancée, Lois Tyree, all of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Gregory Lucado and his wife, Cindy, Kevin Holt and his wife, Allison, Mandy Owens and her husband, Greg, Carrie Lucado and David Lucado; five step-grandchildren, Mandy Jordan, Penny Garrett, Julie Knight, Jacob French, and Joshua French; one great grandchild, Parker Owens, six step great-grandchildren, and two step great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Lucado, of Fincastle, and a sister, Irene Leslie, of Altavista. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nettie
L. Johnson and Avis L. Harvey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Memorial United Methodist Church, Court Street, Appomattox, by the Rev. Robert Thorne and the Rev. Earnie Lucas, with burial to follow in Old Herman Cemetery on Route 24. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 104. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and other times at his residence.
