Barbara Caldwell Jordan, 85, of Midgett Farm Rd., Concord, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Appomattox County, February 24, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Elsie Alvis and Jack Sears Caldwell, Sr. On June 16, 1947, she married her beloved husband of 61 years, James Edward Jordan, Jr. She was a former employee of C & P Telephone Co. A member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the UMW and served in the choir. Mrs. Jordan was also a member of the Concord Young Homemakers and a former member of the Women of the Moose #715.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Robert Jordan of Concord, Larry Jordan and wife Penny of Appomattox; a daughter, Wanda J. Harris and husband Earl of Spout Spring; four grandchildren, Angela Branch and husband Rusty, Michael Harris and fiancée Emily Cole, Brooke Stephens and husband, Robbie, and Ashley Jordan; three great grandchildren, Noah Harris, Robert C. Stephens IV, and Taylor Branch; a niece, Kathy C. Harris and husband, Bob and two nephews, William C. and Jack Harris.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Sears Caldwell, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 pm, Saturday, Mary 23, 2009, in Bethlehem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tim Earnhardt and the Rev. Bart Weakly. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.
