Ava Newman Ferguson, 90, of Appomattox passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Appomattox Health and Rehab. She was the wife of the late John Thomas Ferguson.

Born on September 21, 1933, in Evington, VA, she was the daughter of the late Piercy Callihill Newman and Doshia Unrue Newman. She was a member of Grace Hills Baptist Church. Ava worked for Craddock Terry Shoe Company and retired from Appomattox Family Practice.

She is survived by four children Thomas Keith Ferguson and wife, Paula of North Chesterfield, VA,  Rita F. Marshall and husband, Doug of Appomattox, VA, Sandra F. Ross and husband, Jeff of Goode, VA, and Gloria F. Krauklis and husband, Ron of Appomattox, VA; four grandchildren, Kevin Ferguson and wife, Shannon of Raleigh, NC, Megan Vanderherchen and husband, Matt of Ruther Glen, VA, Adam Marshall and friend, Ashley Woods of Appomattox, VA, and Clay Ross of Goode, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Daniel Ferguson.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alma Almond, Julia Edgeworth, and Edith McCormick; and three brothers, Terrence Newman, P.C. Newman, and John William Newman.

A funeral service will be held 4 pm, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
