Annie Laurie Jones Cardwell, 96, of New Chapel Road, Sherwill, died Friday, January 11, 2013, in the Southerland Place Assisted Living in Midlothian. She was the wife of the late James Richard Cardwell, Jr.
Born in Campbell County, on August 16, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Virginia Purdum and Glover Hunter Jones, Sr. She was a member of Early's Chapel United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and was a retired Halifax County Elementary School teacher.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Brenda Cardwell of Stoney Creek, NC; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Darrell Tetterton of Midlothian; a sister, Virginia J. Canada of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Margaret Jones of Concord; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, G. Hunter Jones, Jr.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in Early's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Steve Barberry. The family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the service.
