Alton Eugene Lucado, Sr., 86, of Old Grist Mill Road, Appomattox, died Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Lucado.
Born in Appomattox County, Va., on April 19, 1931, he was a son of the late Annie Kate and Edward L. Lucado. He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church and a former member of New Hope Baptist Church. Alton retired from Archer Creek Foundry, was a former employee of Appomattox Garment Factory, and after retirement he worked for Fabriko in maintenance for 15 years. He was a member of the Army National Guard and the Appomattox Rescue Squad.
In addition to his wife, Mary he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Alton Jr. and Patricia "Tippy" Lucado; two step-sons and their wives, Jerry Dale and Anne Robertson of Lynch Station and David Lee and Andrea Robertson of Appomattox; eight grandchildren, A. J. Lucado and Ashley, Adam Lucado, Kyle Lucado and Julie, Tyler Lucado, Jeremey Robertson and Julie, Clinton Robertson, Karie Robertson, and Austin Robertson; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nelda Garrett and husband, Nathan and Ruby Reynolds of Appomattox.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at New Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Robert Phillips and Rev. Willie Green. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.
