Alma Hettie Barker Lauter, 78, of Promise Land Rd., Appomattox, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the home of her son. She was the wife of the late John Lauter, to whom she was married to for 52 years.
Born in London, England, on December 25, 1931, she was a daughter of the late George Cecil Barker and Hettie Ivy Thomas Barker. Alma was a member of Our Lady of Peace and AWAG. She had a patriotic love for her home country of England and was completely devoted to her church. Alma loved to travel, history, knitting and sewing, and was an avid gardener. She had a passion for interior decorating and if she had a paint brush in her hand she would be painting something. She loved her pets and really adored any of God's creatures, if a stray came by her home she would feed them.
She is survived by a son, Edward E. Lauter and wife, April of Spout Spring; three daughters, Carol A. Lauter of Madison Heights, Louise A. Williams and husband, Travis of Pamplin, and Adele L. Counts and husband, Bruce of Newport News; 11 grandchildren, Carolyn, Kelly, Danielle, James, Sarah, Matthew, Adam, Laura, Amanda, John-Bruce, and Stella; and four great grandchildren, Alizandria, Donovan, Ava, and Tyler.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church by Father James Gallagher. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the home of her son, Edward and April Lauter, Little Dogwood Road, Spout Spring.
