Allen William McElroy, 91, of Brookneal, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was the husband of Nancy McGhee McElroy.

Born in Pennsylvania, January 20, 1932.  He was a son of the late Thelma Nyce McElroy and Allen Reed McElroy.  Al served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was an avid flight enthusiast and earned his private pilot's license at the age of 70.  Al was the owner of Surf Machinery, Inc., from 1966 to his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Bruce McElroy, Kelly McElroy, Vince McElroy (Shelia), and Kim McElroy (Dianne); four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Tommy McElroy (Joyce); and six brothers.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Union Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Grooms officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
