Alice Almond Thomas, 85, of Appomattox was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Born on May 11, 1938, in Lynchburg, Va. to her precious parents, Algie Welford Almond and Ava Davidson Almond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Lawton Murrell Thomas, Sr.; two brothers, Ray Welford Almond and Reggie Almond; a son-in-law, John Ranson; and her identical twin daughters, Karen Faye and Allison Raye that she was so looking forward to getting to hold in heaven.

Alice was such a loving wife, mother, and nanny and cherished all her family. She is survived by her three children, L.M. Thomas, Ava Sue T. Ranson, and Eve T. Wood; six grandchildren, William Lawton Thomas and wife, Jodi, Jane T. Allen and husband, Scottie, Jay Ranson, Jordan Turner, Savannah Wood, and Tristan Wood; six great-grandchildren, Jakob, CJ, Nathaniel, Cameron, Harper, and Silas. Alice also leaves behind her precious sister, Rachel A. Stanley who told her about Jesus; a brother-in-law, William Floyd Thomas; and her beautiful family of nieces and nephews, Steve Almond, Donna Small, Tommy Ray Stanley, Jimmy Ellyson, and Cindy Watson, whom she thought of as a daughter.

Our Ma would like to express her love and friendship of two special friends in her life, Dawn R. Ferguson and Bobby Adkins.

Our Ma and Daddy had a wonderful life together as they loved to travel and of course take all the family that they could with them. Alice was a member of Bible Baptist Church. She leaves behind so many wonderful friends. The last few months she resided with her daughter Ava Sue where they will receive friends and family.

The family would like to give special thanks to Diann Pickett for the loving care shown, and to Daisy Green, Sherri Becker, Doreen Thompson and all who had a part in caring for our Ma.

A funeral service will be held 11 am, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Watson, Rev. Robert Lee, Pastor Jerry Boyce, Rev. Dr. Rusty Small, and Pastor Toby Solberg. Burial will follow in Old Herman Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
