Alice Jennings Layne

Alice Jennings Layne, 82, of Snapps Mill Road, Spout Spring, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Appomattox Health & Rehab. She was the wife of William Ernest Layne, Jr. for 61 years.
Alice was born in Appomattox County on April 25, 1929, a daughter of the late Gertrude Wooten and Claude Emory Jennings. She was the retired Credit Manager for Sears Roebuck & Co. Alice was a member of Spout Spring Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for 20 years and was a former Sunday School Teacher, member of Spout Spring Ruritan Club where she served as Treasurer for 20 years and chaired many community service projects. Alice will be remembered for her love for the people of the community. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Pastor Paul D. Kvasnicka for his love and concern during her illness.
In addition to her husband, William, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bobby) and Margie Layne of Spout Spring; two grandchildren, Brittany M. Layne of Knoxville, TN and Brandon S. Layne of Spout Spring; two sisters, Martha J. Moore of Gladstone and Claudine J. Horn and her husband, Johnnie of Concord and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Franklin Shupe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Spout Spring Baptist Church by Pastor Paul D. Kvasnicka. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Friday, February 3, 2012, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. and other times at her residence.
