Obituary

Ruth Alice Brown Goin, 94, of 2777 Horseshoe Road, Appomattox, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at her home.
Born November 25, 1912, in the Hollywood Community of Appomattox County, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Ruth Franklin Brown and the widow of DeWitt Talmadge Goin. Alice was a homemaker, a member of Walker's Presbyterian Church, the Women of Walker's Presbyterian Church and the Pamplin Home Demonstration Club.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nan G. Farinholt; two grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Goin and Idelle Scruggs; and three brothers, Berkley, Marvin (Billy) and Curtis Brown.
She is survived by six sons and five daughters and their spouses, Joseph W. and Annie Goin of Lynchburg, Katie G. and Wade Adams of Appomattox, Rachel G. and Marshall Harris of Manakin-Sabot, James Hunter and Elsa Goin of Paos, Costa Rica, Marshall D. and Carol Goin of Appomattox, Lester M. and Rebecca Goin of Cumberland, Mary G. and John Lucas of Richmond, Barbara G. and William W. Dickerson of Pamplin, Margaret G. and George Guido of Spotsylvania, Leon T. Goin, and Stephen T. and Susan Goin all of Appomattox; 31 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by the children from the marriage of Dewitt and Katie, his first wife, Evie G. Harris of Lynchburg; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Conrad (Evelyn) Goin of Prospect; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren. They were preceded in death by sons, Frank, John, Conrad (Tom), and DeWitt Jr. Goin.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Walker's Presbyterian Church by the Reverends Mark Niederbrock, Millard Stimpson, Peyton Harris, Jason Whitener. The pallbearers will be Gary Goin, Jack Goin, Johnny Goin, Kenneth Goin, Marvin Goin, and Michael Goin. Burial will follow in the Goin Family Cemetery.
The family invites friends and relatives to visit at the home on Friday, April 20, 2007 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the DeWitt and Alice Goin Memorial Fund of Walker's Presbyterian Church, c/o Charlie Hackney, 5320 Hixburg Rd., Pamplin, VA 23958 or the Appomattox Rescue Squad, PO Box 57, Appomattox, VA 24522.
