Alfred Gordon Staples, 87, of Evergreen, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Peggy Taylor Staples.
Born in Appomattox, March 16, 1930, he was a son of the late Lucie Butler and Henry Clay Staples, Sr. Gordon was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gordon retired from G.E. as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a charter member of the Appomattox Volunteer Rescue Squad and a member of Evergreen Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a nephew and niece, Henry Clay Staples III, and wife Claudia of Arlington and Janet S. Davidson of Charleston, SC; and a sister-in-law, Betty Allred Staples of Charleston, SC.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Evergreen United Methodist Church with Rev. Herndon Jeffreys officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
