Albert Charles Finchum, 78, of 42 Colonial Rd., Palmyra and formerly of Farmville, died Sunday, August 13, 2006 in Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mamie Berry Finchum.
Born in Sevier County, Tenn., September 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Austin and Cordelia Shultz Finchum. For 39 years Mr. Finchum worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #147. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, the Mineral Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M., and was an US Army Veteran of WW II.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Albert Finchum and his wife, Pam and Ronnie Lee Finchum; a daughter, Brenda Sue Finchum all of the Lake Monticello community of Palmyra; Son-of-Heart, Chief Richard Carl Ford and Daughter-of-Heart, Debbie Ford of Pikesville, NC; sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Gladys Rothgeb of Gordonsville; a brother, Raymond Finchum of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Charles Finchum, Jr. of Henrico, Crystal Deskins of Roanoke, and Kimberly Finchum of Barstow, CA; six great grandchildren, Madeline, Alana Grace, Trey, Mackenzie, Kimberlyn and Kaden; and his beloved companion, Itzy.
In addition to his wife, Mamie, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lou Finchum; a brother, Clifford Finchum and a grandson, Gary Finchum.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox by the Rev. Philip Hunt and the Rev. Frank Baldwin. Burial will follow in the West View Cemetery, Farmville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
