Albert Harrington Carter

Albert Harrington Carter, 76, of Appomattox, VA, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026, at Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lynchburg, on April 28, 1949, he was the son of the late Leah Beasley Carter and Willis Harrington Carter. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Carter.

Albert is survived by a sister, Karen F. Carter of Mechanicsville, VA; three children, Jared Carter and wife, Rebekah and their daughter, Rachel all of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Horton and her sons, Jacob and Logan Horton all of Charlottesville, VA, and Jason Carter and his children, Adam Carter and wife, Carlisle and their daughter, Lovett, Wyatt Carter, and Nathalie Carter all of Stuarts Draft, VA.

Albert was a 1967 graduate of Appomattox High School and received his B. S. in 1971 and his Master’s degree in 1972 from Virginia Tech. He was a retired Vocational Agriculture teacher at Appomattox County High School. After retirement he worked for USDA Farm Services in Rustburg, VA.

He was an avid student and eloquent presenter of American Civil War history and was an enthusiastic volunteer at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, the American Civil War Museum at Appomattox, and the Appomattox Visitor’s Information Center during his retirement years.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he taught the Men’s Sunday School class for many years.
