Bollinger, Elaine Phelps
Elaine Phelps Bollinger, 84, passed away on July 20, 2012, in Roanoke, VA at the South Roanoke Nursing Home.
Elaine was born on August 14, 1927, in Appomattox Co., VA, a daughter of the late Walter P. and Mary Fannie Chenault Phelps. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Tylon T. Bollinger as well as a brother, Burleigh Phelps, sisters; Helen P. Anderson, and Ethel Lee P. Stanley, and nephew, Terry M. Phelps.
She is survived by nieces; Linda A. Stewart, and Michelle L. Stanley of Appomattox, Betty A. Woodard of Deltaville, and Patricia P. Phelps of Roanoke, nephews; Gene Phelps of Lynchburg and Cecil Phelps of Ashland, as well as great niece and nephew; Ashley P. Boone and Timothy T. Phelps of Roanoke. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and special longtime friends as well.
Elaine worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years, receiving her training at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg. She moved to Newport News after training and worked at Riverside Hospital and the Health Department. There she met and married Ty, a native of North Carolina, whom she nicknamed “Tarheel”. After moving back to Appomattox, Elaine worked at Lynchburg General and then at Appomattox Family Practice for 21 years until her retirement to Smith Mountain Lake, and finally to Roanoke.
Elaine was a lifelong member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church in Appomattox.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 24 at 11:30 a.m. at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, with a graveside funeral service following at 1:00 P.M. in Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church Cemetery.
