Phyllis Mayberry Smith, 67, of Lucy St., died Friday, March 8, 2013, at her residence. Born in Appomattox, VA on April 19, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Bessie Cyrus and James Hunter Mayberry.
Phyllis was an active longtime member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she coordinated the prayer chain, was a member of the United Methodist Women, the prayer team, and the Roland Murphy Sunday School class. She retired from Commercial Steel and worked part-time at Webb’s Tire.
She is survived by two beloved daughters, Tamara Dawn Martin and husband, Ricky of Appomattox and Cristy Ann Smith of Glen Allen; three precious granddaughters, Tiffany Dawn Baker and her fiancé, Darrell Sprouse of Waynesboro, Sidney Ray Gafford and McKenzie Danielle Perdue of Glen Allen; a great grandchild, Ryan Hall; her caring brother, Norman (Jimmy) Mayberry and wife, Carolyn of Appomattox and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris M. Martin and a brother, James Harvey Mayberry.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Monday, March 11, 2013, in Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Russell Cheatham and the Rev. Alfred Jones. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 5:00 -7:00 pm and other times at the residence.
