W. A. (Dick) Franklin

William Alvis (Dick) Franklin, 89, of Anderson Mill Rd., Appomattox, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Louise P. Franklin.

Dick was born in Appomattox County, on February 27, 1923. He was a US Army veteran serving during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He was a member and deacon of Hollywood Baptist Church. Dick was preceded in death by two wives, Francis S. Franklin and Bertha W. Franklin.

In addition to wife, Louise he is survived by two children, Alvin D. Franklin and wife Linda and Cathy Pender and husband, David; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three step-children, Linda Paulette, Charky Paulette, Dottie Beck and husband Charles Bub; three step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two step-children, Calvin Paulette and Janice P. Seay.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Hollywood Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Phillips. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers the memorials may be made to Hollywood Baptist Church, c/o Roberta Austin, 6564 Hollywood Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522.
